goin up the country
To me, Vermont is home: perhaps not my primary home, but my spiritual home. Come experience what I love about the Green Mountain State. Have an adventure and tire yourself out, then drive home slow on a backroad with the window open and your arm hanging out, playing airplane with the breeze. Stop for an ice cream or a beer wherever you happen to be. Stop and talk to some old farmer and pet his cows. Roll up your pants and wade into a stream. Heck, get nekked and holler a bit. Here are a few of my favorite adventures:
The cottage is just a short distance to both Killington (south) and Sugarbush (north): that's some of the best skiing in the east! There's a cross-country/snowshoeing trail right down the road, and Mad River Glen, Rikert Nordic Center, Suicide Six, and Stowe Mountain are all easily reachable as well.
We're not fishermen (yet), but we hear that the White River has some of the best trout fishing around.
Green Mountain Bikes is right in downtown Rochester. They can rent you bikes and recommend some appropriate trails.
We're right nearby the Long Trail, or just walk outside the door and take a stroll through the fields and farmland.
